Terms of service

These terms are the agreement between you and MMO Meetups. They cover what the site is for, what you may post, and what we are and are not responsible for. MMO Meetups is a listener-run directory of in-person meetups connected to the Millennial Media Offensive podcast. It is operated by the people reachable at the address in section 14 and is not run by the podcast itself.

By using this site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it. What we collect and why is set out in our privacy policy, which forms part of this agreement.

1. What this site is

A noticeboard. Listeners post meetups and other listeners find them. We host the listings and nothing else. We do not organise, sponsor, supervise, fund or attend the events, we are not a party to any arrangement between a host and the people who turn up, and we do not vet hosts beyond checking that a submission is not spam.

2. Accounts

Browsing the site and RSVPing to a meetup need no account. Posting one does.

• An account needs a working email address, which you must confirm before you can post a meetup. Your display name is shown publicly and may be a pseudonym.
• One person, one account. Do not impersonate anyone, and do not use a display name chosen to look like somebody else.
• You are responsible for what happens under your login. Choose a password you do not use elsewhere and tell us if you think it has been used by someone else.
• We may suspend or remove an account being used to spam, harass or work around these terms.

3. Posting a meetup

Every submission is reviewed before it appears, and editing a listing that has already been approved sends it back for review. We may decline, edit or remove a listing for any reason, and we will not always explain why. Do not post:

• Anything illegal, or anything organised to confront, intimidate or harm people
• Commercial promotions, recruitment pitches or fundraising dressed up as a meetup
• A private home address, or anyone's personal details, without their agreement
• Events you have no intention of actually holding

If you post a meetup you are the host. Turning up, sorting out the venue, following whatever rules the venue has, and telling people early if plans change are all on you. You confirm that you have the right to list the venue and to publish anything you put in the listing.

Hosts can see the name, email address and party size of everyone who RSVPs. That is there so you can get word out if something changes. Use it for that and nothing else: no mailing lists, no promotions, no passing the addresses on.

4. RSVPs and attending

An RSVP tells a host to expect you. It is not a ticket, and it is not a promise from us that anything will happen. Every confirmation email carries a link that cancels your RSVP, and cancelling early is the polite thing to do if you cannot make it.

You attend at your own risk. We make no promise that an event will take place, that the host is who they say they are, or that the venue is what the listing claims. Use the judgement you would use meeting anyone from the internet: a public place, tell somebody where you are going, and leave if it feels wrong.

5. Your content

What you write stays yours. By posting it here you give us permission to store it, publish it on the site and in the feeds and pages that list what is on, and to edit it for length, formatting or clarity. That permission lasts as long as the listing does. You keep responsibility for anything you post being accurate and yours to post.

6. Using the site itself

Do not try to break into any part of the site or any account that is not yours, do not collect email addresses or personal details from it in bulk, and do not hammer it with automated requests. Ordinary reading, linking and sharing are all fine and always will be.

7. Relationship to the podcast

This site is run by and for listeners. Meetups listed here are not produced or endorsed by the Millennial Media Offensive, its hosts, or anyone connected to the show, unless a listing says so in plain words.

8. Privacy

What we collect, who can see it, how long we keep it and how to have it deleted are all in the privacy policy. Anything you put in a listing is published, so treat it as visible to everyone.

9. Ending it

You can stop using the site whenever you like, and you can ask us to delete your account. We may close an account or withdraw access if these terms are broken. Meetups that have already taken place may stay listed as a record of what was held, with your name removed. Sections 10, 11 and 12 survive the end of this agreement.

10. No warranty

The site is provided as it is and as it happens to be available. We do not guarantee that it will be up, that anything on it is accurate or current, or that it is free of mistakes. To the fullest extent the law allows we disclaim all warranties, express or implied.

11. Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss, injury or damage arising from your use of this site, from anything posted on it, or from any meetup you found through it, including anything that happens at or on the way to one. Some places do not allow limits like this, in which case this section applies as far as the law where you are permits and no further.

12. Where this applies

The site is operated from and hosted in the United States and is intended for use there. It is not directed at anyone under 13.

13. Changes

We may update these terms. When we do we will change the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
